Replacing Your Brake Pads

Brake pads naturally degrade as time passes. Luckily, it’s not hard to replace them as you think. The equipment you may need with this project is lug wrench, c-clamp, adjustable or open wrench, Allen wrenches, hammer, plus a bungee cord. Once you jack up your vehicle, ensure that you have it sustained by blocks or jack stands. It’s never safe to operate on the car that’s sustained by a jack only. First thing you must do is take off the wheel as well as the EBC rotors. The lugs must be simple to get, it’s best to do it from the bottom up.

Next, for you to eliminate the brake pads you should first eliminate the brake caliper. The brake caliper could be located just over the lug bolts, looking at the top of brake disc. There’s a bolt that keeps the caliper in position. You may eliminate it easily with the suitable wrench. There are various kinds of bolts that may be keeping it in position, so it’s best if you have different wrenches handy. You can now pull the caliper off by pulling directly up. You may want to wiggle it a little for you to loosen it. Now you can sit the caliper some place convenient, or make use of a bungee cord to tie it up.

Now, it’s time to take off the brake pads. They must actually slide out without providing you any difficulty. Remember that they are attached though, as you will have to know this when you’re installing the new ones. If you’re driving an older vehicle, you may have to tap them with your hammer a little to have them unstuck. There might be some small metal tabs retaining the pads in position also. Then, ensure you hold onto them; you’ll need them once you place the new pads in.

You can now easily slide new brake pads in, while using metal tabs to hold them in position if applicable. With your new pads attached, you must adjust the brake piston. This device adjusts as the pads degrade to keep your brakes working efficiently. To readjust it, you’ll need your c-clamp. Place the end of the clamp using the screw from the piston. The other end should rest behind the caliper assembly. Now just slowly tighten the clamp till the piston has moved to a spot to insert the pads easily.

The next step you must do is slide the caliper assembly over new pads. Replace the bolts. At this time, it’s a good option to push down the brake pedal several times so you might be assured of the brake pressure. You can now replace the wheel and also the lug nuts. It’s a great idea to ensure that the lug nuts are truly secure. You now have successfully changed the green stuff brake pads of your car.
